The 2025 Jaecoo J7 PHEV has officially launched in Malaysia, marking Jaecoo’s entry into the plug-in hybrid SUV market. This model comes in a single front-wheel-drive (2WD) variant, priced at RM158,800—much lower than the earlier RM170,000 estimate. It also stands out as the most affordable plug-in hybrid SUV from a non-premium brand.

The J7 PHEV is locally assembled at Jaecoo’s factory in Shah Alam, which also produces the petrol-powered J7 and the Omoda C9. The biggest change in this model is its hybrid powertrain. Instead of the petrol model’s 1.6L turbo engine, it features a 1.5L engine made specifically for hybrid use, paired with an electric motor. The petrol engine generates 143 PS and 215 Nm, while the electric motor delivers 204 PS and 310 Nm, giving a total combined output of 347 PS and 525 Nm. It can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h.



The hybrid system is paired with a single-speed DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission), which works similarly to an eCVT. Powering the electric motor is an 18.3 kWh Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery from BYD. This setup offers an 88 km pure electric range (WLTP-rated) and an impressive 1,200 km total driving range with the 60-litre fuel tank. Tests have even shown it can exceed 1,300 km on a full charge and tank, but under ideal conditions that may not reflect everyday use.

The J7 PHEV supports both 40 kW DC fast charging, which can charge from 30-80% in just 20 minutes, and 6.6 kW AC charging, which takes about 3 hours and 20 minutes for a full charge.



For safety, the J7 PHEV comes with a full suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera with a transparent view function. Additional safety features include front and rear fog lights, keyless entry and start, and a built-in dash cam.

The SUV retains its rugged, Land Rover-inspired design but features some refinements, such as new 19-inch aero-style wheels, slimmer side mirrors, and a chequered flag trim detail. The fake exhaust tips from the petrol model have been removed, giving it a cleaner and more modern look.



Inside, the biggest update is the new steering column-mounted gear stalk, replacing the traditional gear lever to free up space for physical buttons, including controls for EV and HEV driving modes. The cabin also features a 10.25-inch digital driver display with updated graphics, a 14.8-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, power-adjustable front seats with memory, heating, and ventilation, a panoramic sunroof, and a hands-free powered tailgate.

Despite the addition of a large battery, the J7PHEV still offers 500 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,265 litres with the rear seats folded, thanks to the removal of the full-size spare tyre in favour of a tyre repair kit.



Jaecoo Malaysia provides a 7-year/150,000 km vehicle warranty and an 8-year/160,000 km warranty for the battery, power motor, and controller unit. If the battery’s state of health (SOH) drops below 70% within the warranty period, it qualifies for a 1-to-1 replacement.
